Now I like my statistics so here are some just for you. According to Wyzowl.com, in 2016 where both text and video are available on the same web page, 69% of users would prefer to watch video to learn about a product or service than to read about it. By 2017, video content will represent 74% of all internet traffic (source), Not only that, videos under 5 minutes in length currently account for 55% of total video consumption time on smartphones (source)
So what can we take away from these stats.
If we don’t start seriously thinking about using video the chances are our competition will be
People actually prefer video so shouldn’t we as businesses be giving the consumer what they want?
The video doesn’t need to be lengthy to make an impact. Short-form videos are becoming increasingly popular, particularly on social media - have you seen the "Proper Tasty" clips?
Video is, and will be, a powerful way to communicate with people and build relationships
Stuck for ideas? Here are a few suggestions, but remember to always keep your audience in mind and what would appeal to them:
"How to?" videos
Promote your unique skills
Reveal a new product
"Behind the scenes"
The next time you’re on social network sites, have a look at any short video content produced and make some notes. Does it give you ideas?
A great place to start is by using Facebook Slideshow. Facebook as a platform loves video so it’s likely you will get better reach to potential customers. You can also download the video you have created and use it on your website, other social media sites, your blog and YouTube. The only preparation you will need are your photos for the slideshow, maximum of ten.
Let's get started!
To begin you need to select the “share a photo or video”
Step 2: You will be presented with four options of how you want to create your video. Select the "Create a Slideshow" option. You will then come to this screen:
This is the main screen where all the magic happens. You will notice four elements on the left hand side - these will determine how your video is going to look. The options are all changeable at any point during the process. In fact I would advise trying the different combinations and see which you prefer.
Aspect Ratio: This means what size you would like the final video to be, I tend to choose original
Image Duration: Length of time for each slide, they have to all be the same length from
0.5 second to 5 seconds.. Experiment to see which works - if you have text on the slide, it may need longer to allow people to read it!
Transition: Do you want your slides to fade or not, the best way to find out is to have a go with both - and choose what you think works best.
Music: There are lots of options so take your pick.
You are now ready to upload your slides one at time. Its easier to do this in the order you wish to view them but if you do want to move the slides afterwards, you can simply click and drag.
Once you have created your slideshow and are happy - publish it. Depending on how big the video is this can take up to a minute so be a bit patient as it does look as if nothing has happened for a while. Facebook provides some great stats about your videos so make sure you have a look at what’s the most popular with your audience, you might be surprised. I posted one about making an origami penguin - and this has the most views!
Download – To download the video and add it to Youtube etc, you can do this from the Video tab located on the left-hand side. Select the video library button - here you will find your videos. Tick the video you wish to download then select the actions button (as per the screen shot below) You have lots of different option here but we want to download in HD.
Embedding - If you want to add your video into a blog post such as this then you need to embed the video. This isn’t as scary as it sounds, and to be honest, you will need to understand this process if you are wanting to add videos to blogs and websites.
What does Embedding mean? Embedding a video in your webpage allows it to actually play within your page, rather than taking the user offsite to view the video when clicking a link. The video posted at the bottom has been embedded. But beware if you embed a post and you later delete the original video it will no longer appear on your website or blog. In its place will be a message saying that it’s no longer available.
The process of embedding means you have to use HTML code which you then add to your website. This is how to do it:
Select the video option on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on the video and then click on the three dashes (top right hand corner), and select the embed button. Copy and paste this HTML code into the website or blog’s HTML code at the place where you wish to add the video.
That’s it! You have created a video and here's one of mine below (embedded of course). Why not tag me in something you have created? Finally if you haven’t done so, why not create a Youtube account and add your video to it?
